I have a long association with Spire Dunedin Hospital, having worked in Reading in the late 90s. In 1998 I was appointed Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon at the Royal Berkshire Hospital and established the Reading Shoulder Unit with Stephen Copeland. I have developed and introduced numerous arthroscopic and open novel surgical techniques, including resurfacing shoulder replacement, and designed the Verso stemless reverse total shoulder replacement.
I graduated from the Hebrew University and Hadassah School of Medicine, Jerusalem, in 1982 gaining the first prize in surgery. After completion of my military service at the rank of Major, I continued my general surgical training at Kaplan Medical Centre, later moving to the Sheba Medical Centre, both in Israel.
In 1992 I was appointed Instructor of Orthopaedic Surgery at the Sackler School of Medicine in Tel Aviv, where I carried out significant research. In 1995 I was appointed Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon and Chief of Shoulder Surgery at Soroka Medical Centre and lecturer in Orthopaedic Surgery at the faculty of Health and Science at the Ben-Gurion University, Israel.
I am a founding member and the first secretary of the Israeli Shoulder and Elbow Society, a member of the European Society of Shoulder and Elbow Surgery and the British Elbow and Shoulder Society (BESS) and corresponding member of the American Shoulder and Elbow Society. I am a fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of England, fellow of the British Orthopaedic Association and Israeli Orthopaedic Association.
I have had scientific papers and presentations published extensively and contributed chapters published in medical textbooks on shoulder surgery.
I have been awarded the national clinical excellence award for my work. I was Associate Professor of Orthopaedic and Biomechanics research at Brunel University, London between 2008 - 2016. I have also been the Assistant Editor of the Journal of Shoulder and Elbow Surgery and the Journal of Shoulder and Elbow Arthroplasty. I have invented and been involved in the development of numerous new surgical instruments and devices and I am meticulous in recording surgical details and surgical outcomes.
