MBBS, BSc (Hons), MRCP (UK), MD
I am a Consultant Cardiologist with subspecialty expertise in cardiovascular imaging, inherited cardiac conditions, heart muscle diseases, and sports cardiology.
I am fully accredited in all aspects of echocardiography, including transthoracic, transoesophageal and stress echocardiography. I am one of only two people in Wales to have achieved Level 3 European Accreditation in Cardiac MRI (qualified to teach and lead a clinical cardiac MRI service).
I have extensive training and experience in the assessment and treatment of cardiac diseases in athletes, including pre-participation cardiac screening of both professional and amateur sportspersons. I have worked closely with athletes from a wide variety of organisations including the Welsh Rugby Union, Football Premier League, England and Wales Cricket Board, Lawn Tennis Association, and UK Athletics. I have expertise in heart muscle diseases including heart failure due to coronary artery disease and valvular heart disease, as well as inheritable / genetic cardiomyopathies.
I am the regional training lead (Wales) for the British Society of Cardiovascular Magnetic Resonance. I also work with the Education Committee of the British Society of Echocardiography and have been a co-author on several national guidelines and clinical protocols for clinical echocardiography. I am the editor of an online revision resource for the European Examination in General Cardiology: https://www.studyprn.com/p/cardiology-eegc
In addition to my clinical work, I am also proud to be an honorary lecturer at Cardiff University.
I also work closely with the charitable organisation Cardiac Risk in the Young, and have screened over 6,000 young people for undiagnosed cardiac disorders predisposing to sudden death. I have been working to establish a national cardiac screening centre in Wales.

In my spare time I enjoy exercise and keep-fit, and have been a keen runner for many years. I have competed in numerous endurance events including the London Marathon. I enjoy watching and playing snooker, and occasionally dabble in cooking. I have been learning Welsh for the past 12 years (initially from my wife, and more recently from my children!), and am pleased to have reached a reasonable working Welsh-language proficiency. Above all I enjoy spending time with my family, and much of my spare time is taken up with entertaining my three young sons.
