Dr Alamgir Kabir

I am a Consultant Cardiologist at Spire Hartswood Hospital in Brentwood Essex, offering private cardiology care. I see a wide variety of cardiology patients including those with adult congenital heart disease, angina, coronary artery disease, valvular heart disease and heart rhythm problems.

I qualified from Guy's and St Thomas' Medical School in 1996. I trained in cardiology at St Bartholomew's Hospital, the London Chest Hospital and The Heart Hospital (part of University College London Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust). I have a PhD in ischaemic preconditioning from King's College London. I have published in peer reviewed journals and presented at international meetings.

I have expertise in all areas of general cardiology and particularly in interventional cardiology. In addition I have a profound interest in adult congenital heart disease and am the clinical lead for the local service in this area. I perform hundreds of angiograms, angioplasties and pacemaker insertions every year. I also offer implantable loop recorders. As a consultant who is accredited in both cardiology and general medicine I strongly believe in giving patients the time to discuss their medical problems and treating them holistically.

I perform around 500 coronary angiograms and around 300 coronary angioplasties each year. My NHS base at the Essex Cardiothoracic Centre is one of the busiest angioplasty centres in the country, performing around 3,000 procedures a year. I perform around 45 permanent pacemaker insertions a year for patients with heart rhythm problems.

I train junior doctors in cardiology and regularly lecture for professional exams. I am also a cardiology consultant at the Essex Cardiothoracic Centre in Basildon, Essex.
