I have wealth of experience in field of gastroenterology for over 20 years. I have been a Consultant Gastroenterologist at Wirral University Teaching Hospitals since 2007. I have been offering specialist gastroenterology and endoscopy services at Spire Murrayfield, Wirral since 2011.

I have a special interest in advanced endoscopy, colonoscopy , diseases of the gut, liver and pancreas. I have expertise in diagnosing and managing gastrointestinal cancers, inflammatory bowel diseases, dyspepsia and irritable bowel syndrome. I regularly care for patients with symptoms of abdominal pain, reflux, bloating, altered bowel habit, rectal bleeding and gluten intolerance.

I have a special interest in diseases of the liver, including fatty or metabolic liver diseases and pancreatic disorders.
I regularly perform ERCP (Endoscopic Retrograde Cholangio-Pancreatiography) to treat gallstones.

I am passionate about delivering clinical excellence, service development, education and training and upholding professional values. I base my care on the latest scientific evidence and innovations currently available. I believe in a patient-centred approach and aim to offer a personalised service to my patients from start to finish. I consider myself very approachable, meticulous and pragmatic in my practice.

My training included an initial five years of higher training in gastroenterology from the Mersey Region during which I gained expertise in broad gastroenterology and endoscopic procedures. I then competed nationally for the advanced fellowship in the Liver Unit, QE Hospital Birmingham, which is one of the most prestigious liver transplant centres in Europe. I was formally awarded specialty accreditation in hepatology by the National Training Board in 2007. In 2010 I was awarded a travelling fellowship to South Carolina, USA, by the British Society of Gastroenterology to further my skills in specialised endoscopy. I was conferred fellowship of the Royal College in 2011.

To date, as of 2025, I have performed over 5,000 gastroscopies including therapeutic procedures such as oesophageal dilatation, treatment of bleeding ulcers and banding of varices. I have performed over 3,000 colonoscopies/polypectomies and over 4,000 ERCPs with stent insertions/stone extractions over a 20 year period in both my NHS and private practice at Spire Murrayfield, Wirral. I regularly see and manage complex liver and GI diseases in my clinics - referred specifically for my expert opinion. I also offer FibroScan to measure liver stiffness which indicates severity of underlying liver disease without the need for a liver biopsy.

Over the years I have contributed immensely to shaping current gastroenterology services on the Wirral peninsula. I was overall clinical service lead for gastroenterology for 4 years, and then the lead for Liver and Pancreatic services for a further 3 years. This was an onerous task and involved leading a department of 10 colleagues and with responsibility for service delivery, departmental governance and managing performance for wide ranging services.

In my tenure as service lead, I implemented several service improvements, initiated 7 day working services in gastroenterology, led on recruitment and have been an appraiser for colleagues . I am an educator, regularly teach undergraduate students from the University of Liverpool, supervise endoscopy fellows, and have been an MRCP examiner. I have published in peer reviewed journals and have led on several pathway designs in and out of the hospital.
