As a rheumatologist, I have an interest in understanding the cause of disease and ensuring that treatments that are offered are appropriately mapped to the underlying cause. I have an interest in rheumatoid arthritis (particularly early rheumatoid arthritis) and inflammatory arthritis that occurs in association with psoriasis and inflammatory bowel conditions.
I have performed hundreds of joint injections in my NHS/private practice and am proficient in shoulder, elbow, wrist, hand, knee, lateral hip, ankle and plantar fascia injections. I also perform suprascapular nerve blocks to help patients with intractable shoulder pain which is not amenable to surgery.
Having trained in rheumatology and general medicine in the East of England, I have been a consultant in the NHS since 2012. I started my consultant career in Chelmsford where I developed a Clinical Trials Unit and went on to take on the role of Associate Medical Director at Mid Essex Hospital Trust. My interest in Early Arthritis, Rheumatoid Arthritis and Cancer Immunotherapy-associated arthritis drew me to Addenbrooke's Hospital in Cambridge where I run an Early Arthritis Clinic and also work closely with the oncologists to manage cancer-immunotherapy associated arthritis.
I represent rheumatology at the Outpatient Board Meeting at Addenbrooke's Hospital and am part of the Addenbrooke's Hospital Drugs and Therapeutics Committee. Since April this year, I have taken over the responsibility of Clinical Lead for Rheumatology and together we have made in-roads in to streamlining our services.
In additional to my clinical work, I am also the Clinical Lead of the Department of Rheumatology and manage the rheumatology services across Addenbrooke’s Hospital and outreach Clinics at Newmarket, Saffron Waldon and Ely.
As rheumatologists we are only now beginning to appreciate that many different conditions are linked. An example is the link between arthritis and the diseases of the gut. There are also clues in one's family history, and it is not uncommon for family members to have related conditions. My approach to arthritis takes into account these various other (seemingly unrelated) issues.
Some of the principal treatments carried out by Dr Anshuman Malaviya at Spire include:

MD / University of Mumbai / 2004

Most of my published research relates to rheumatoid arthritis. I also regularly manage patients with immunotherapy-associated arthritis (check-point inhibitor associated arthritis) and a research paper based on our experience is to be presented at an oncology conference soon.
