I am a highly trained Consultant Cardiologist with extensive expertise in all aspects of adult cardiology. I offer comprehensive and personalised treatment plans tailored to meet each patient’s unique needs and expectations. My practice is centered around a multidisciplinary approach, collaborating closely with other cardiology sub-specialties, physicians, surgeons, dietitians, and physiotherapists to provide holistic care.
Currently, I work as a Consultant Cardiologist at the East and North Hertfordshire NHS Trust. My medical journey began at the University of Edinburgh, where I qualified in 1993. I subsequently completed my postgraduate higher specialist training in general medicine at renowned institutions across London, including St George's Hospital, King's College Hospital, and the Sussex Cardiac Centre in Brighton.
I further developed my skills during a one-year Interventional Fellowship at the Onze Lieve Vrouwe Gasthuis (OLVG) Hospital in Amsterdam, where radial angioplasty was first pioneered. Throughout my training, I had the privilege of working alongside some of the most eminent European and global leaders in cardiology.
In 2006, I was awarded a Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree for my thesis titled "Electrocardiographic Monitoring of Myocardial Ischaemia - Novel Methods and Potential Application in Implanted Devices," conducted under a Welcome Trust project grant.
I have an extensive publication record, including a book titled Emergency Cardiology, five book chapters, and numerous peer-reviewed articles. I have also served as a reviewer for several leading cardiology journals and have presented my research at national and international conferences. Additionally, I am deeply committed to medical education, actively involved in training general practitioners, junior doctors, nurses, technicians, paramedics, and medical students.
I am honored to hold the title of Fellow of the European Society of Cardiology (FESC), a distinction awarded to healthcare professionals who have made significant contributions to cardiology and is recognized as a symbol of excellence in the field.
I am extensively trained in performing multi-vessel, chronic total occlusions and complex coronary artery interventions (angioplasty and stenting), using both radial and femoral approaches. I offer comprehensive evaluation and treatment for a wide range of conditions, including chest pain, shortness of breath (breathlessness), palpitations, heart murmurs, dizziness or fainting spells, elevated cholesterol, and a family history of heart disease, including cardiomyopathies and sudden unexpected death.
My areas of special interest include general cardiology, coronary artery disease and intervention (angioplasty and stenting), coronary microvascular disease, coronary artery spasm, pacemakers, heart valve disease, syncope, hypertension, heart failure, palpitations, atrial fibrillation, arrhythmia management, cardiovascular risk assessment and primary prevention, and sports cardiology.
