I graduated from Newcastle upon Tyne University Medical School and undertook my junior medical training in the teaching hospitals of Newcastle and Edinburgh. Following completing the examinations for the Membership of the Royal College of Physicians (London), I was fortunate to work in Auckland, New Zealand, where I obtained an amazing insight into the scale of the problem of diabetes in the multicultural society of the South Pacific.
On my return, I was successful in obtaining a training post in diabetes and endocrinology and general medicine in Oxford where I spent nearly a decade. Here I completed my clinical specialist registrar training in diabetes and endocrinology in a national centre for excellence, providing me with a superb breadth of experience in secondary and tertiary level specialist care.
My academic background includes excellent and comprehensive training in both basic science and clinical research. I was awarded a three year Wellcome Trust Research Training Fellowship to study molecular medicine at Christ Church, Oxford University.
I have presented my work at national and international meetings. During my time in Oxford I was also appointed a Lecturer in Clinical Medicine at Christ Church, Oxford University. I have remained very actively involved in both junior doctor and medical student training. I am passionate in delivering high quality of care for my patients and offer an individualised approach to patient care.
