My primary medical qualification was in 1989 from Newnham College Cambridge. Subsequently, I did my junior doctor medical training in East Anglia and then at the Radcliffe Infirmary in Oxford. Following this, I spent three years at the Brain Repair Centre in Cambridge where I gained a PhD in research on treatment strategies for multiple sclerosis. For five years I was a Neurology Consultant at the Ipswich Hospital and Addenbrooke’s.
In 2010, I moved to the West Suffolk Hospital and I now divide my week between busy general neurology clinics at the WSH and I run the Neuromuscular Service at Addenbrooke’s. I am also the Neurology Teaching Director for clinical students at Addenbrooke's.
