After training posts in General Medicine, I further specialised in Respiratory and General Medicine as a Registrar in Merseyside.

In addition to my routine clinical training, I spent two years as a Clinical and Research Fellow at the prestigious Adult CF Unit at Liverpool Heart and Chest Hospital, which is among the largest CF units in the country. During this time, I carried out research into Cystic Fibrosis Related Diabetes, and completed my MD thesis through the University of Liverpool.

Following completion of my training, I worked as a Consultant in CF, Respiratory and General medicine at University Hospitals Bristol NHS Trust, one of the largest NHS Trusts in the South-West of England, prior to relocating back to Merseyside.

My NHS Practice as a Respiratory Consultant is at Liverpool Heart and Chest Hospital, and I am an Honorary Senior Clinical Lecturer in the Institute of Infection and Global Health at the University of Liverpool.

I have led and completed several research studies leading to substantial publications and changes in clinical practice. I have published several articles in the areas of CF and non-CF bronchiectasis. These publications have been published in a wide variety of high-quality peer review journals.

I work alongside Mrs Ilona Littler (BSc, MSc), Specialist Chest Physiotherapist who provides physiotherapy-based assessment of those who have a long-term underlying problem with breathing or a newly diagnosed condition eg COPD, emphysema, bronchiectasis, asthma, chronic bronchitis or pulmonary fibrosis, in addition to the following:
  • Assessment and management of problems with hyperventilation (quick breathing)  
  • Assessment of breathing pattern and re-education  
  • Breathing pattern disorder management  
  • Long Covid assessment and related respiratory management  
  • Airway clearance for those who struggle with clearing phlegm from their chest  
  • Advice on how to use inhalers and nebulisers correctly  
  • Personalised exercise regimes  
  • Self-management of respiratory conditions  
  • Induced laryngeal obstruction (ILO) assessment and management  
  • Cardio-respiratory exercise and optimisation  
I also work alongside Mr Rob Peat (BSc, MSc), Specialist Respiratory Physiologist, who provides or facilitates the following services at the Spire Murrayfield Wirral:
