I graduated in Medicine from the University of Glasgow in 1986, and undertook postgraduate training in both Rheumatology and General Internal Medicine across central Scotland. In 1997, I was a visiting fellow at the National Institutes of Health, Bethesda, Maryland, USA. I have been a full-time Consultant Rheumatologist since 1999, and have extensive experience in Clinical Rheumatology.
I currently sit on the Council, and Clinical Affairs Committee, of the British Society for Rheumatology as the Scottish representative. I am a clinical member of the Cross Party Parliamentary Group for Arthritis and Musculoskeletal Conditions at the Scottish Parliament. I formerly sat on the Board of the MRCP (UK) examination (Part II), and the Council of the Scottish Society for Rheumatology.
I have been the Training Programme Director for Rheumatology for South-East Scotland 2000-2012. My medico-legal practice includes work for legal firms across the UK, as well as the Central Legal Office of NHS Scotland.

I am married with two grown up daughters. As a native of Ayrshire, I have been settled in Edinburgh since 1992. My leisure interests include golf, vinyl records, live music and theatre. I have published in Private Eye.
