BSc, MBChB, MRCP, MMedSci,
I specialise in treating patients with the full range of rheumatic conditions. Where needed, I use bedside ultrasound to assist in diagnosis. I am a full time Consultant Rheumatologist working at the University of Derby and Burton Hospitals Trusts. I am dedicated to providing individualised care based on my patients’ specific needs and aim to provide the kind of service that I would hope to receive personally or provide to my family.
I completed my medical training at the University of Leicester where I completed both my Bachelors in Medicine and Surgery (MBChB) and Bachelors in Science (BSc) in Physiology and Pharmacology.
During my professional career, I have developed a passion for education for both healthcare professionals and patients alike. Pursuing this interest, I completed a Masters in Medical Education (MSc) from the University of Nottingham. I continue to teach medical students and welcome trainees in many of my clinics.
I began practicing as a doctor in Oxfordshire with rotations at both the John Radcliffe Hospital and the Nuffield Hospital. Wanting to gain a broader training experience as a junior doctor, I travelled to Brisbane Australia, where I spent nearly a year working in the fast paced world of emergency medicine. On my return to England, I completed my early physician training in Birmingham at both the Queen Elizabeth Hospital and Birmingham City Hospital. My final higher training rotations took place in the East Midlands in Nottingham, Derby and Lincoln where I qualified in both Rheumatology and General Internal Medicine.
For the final year of my training journey, I was appointed the Chief Registrar in the Nottingham University Hospital Trust. This gave me the opportunity to work directly with the Royal College of Physicians to help drive change and quality improvement within the Trust. I retained the drive to continually improve services, for example currently I am working to develop a fibromyalgia service locally in Derby and am in the process of developing a specialist clinic for patients with inflammatory spinal disease.
