I am a Consultant Cardiologist at the Lancashire Cardiac Centre in Blackpool which is a large tertiary cardiology/cardiothoracic centre and the regional heart attack centre. I graduated from Oxford University in 1995, winning the cardiology prize. In 2006 I was awarded a DM (Oxon) doctoral degree, winning an ESC young investigator finalists award for this work.
I undertook Cardiology Specialist Registrar training in North West London, receiving a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) in both General Internal Medicine and Cardiology. I am trained in all aspects of cardiology, with particular expertise in interventional cardiology and non-invasive imaging. I have undertaken interventional fellowships in London, Liverpool and Zürich. Since 2013 I have also been undertaking medico-legal instructions and writing medico-legal reports.
I am a fully trained General and Interventional Cardiologist. I specialise in the following areas: general cardiology, the investigation and management of coronary artery disease, including stable angina, acute coronary syndromes. Myocardial infractions, cardiology research, coronary intervention including angiography and stent implantation including treating complex lesions, hypertension, arrhythmia management, heart failure and non-invasive imaging including: echocardiography, myocardial perfusion scans, exercise tests etc.
I have a specialist interest in complex lipid management for which I am the trust lead. I undertake regular angiography and angioplasty sessions at Blackpool Victoria Hospital. I undertake regular medico-legal reports.
I have performed and/or interpreted over 4,000 echocardiography studies; over 5,000 coronary angiography procedures; over 3,000 coronary angioplasty procedures and over 1,000 myocardial perfusion scan reports. I undertake weekly exercise tests, echocardiography studies and 24 hour tapes. I have three weekly cath lab sessions. I have written over 20 medico-legal reports in the past four years.
From 2014 until 2017 I was the Lead for the Liverpool Medical Students attached to Blackpool Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, in charge of their curriculum activities and pastoral care. Since April 2017 I have been the Director of Research, Development and Innovation at Blackpool Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. I am also the lead for physiological testing in the cath lab at Blackpool Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.
In addition to my clinical work, I am also proud to be an Honorary Senior Lecturer at Liverpool University, and an Honorary Clinical Senior Lecturer at the University of Buckingham.
