MA, MB BChir, MRCP, FPCR
After a brief commission in the Brigade of Gurkhas, I trained at Gonville and Caius College, Cambridge University and The London Hospital Medical College, Whitechapel.
As a medical registrar at the Royal Free Hospital, London, I enjoyed working on the Liver Unit (including transplantation), where my interest in liver and gastrointestinal pathology first originated.
Subsequently, as a radiology registrar I gained extensive diagnostic and therapeutic experience in GI and liver imaging at the Royal Free Hospital but also trained at Great Ormond Street Hospital and the Royal Marsden Hospital.
Now, as a senior Consultant, this interest has continued and developed, predominately in specialising in gastrointestinal and oncological imaging as well as full participation in the general and on-call work – including a broad range of procedures under fluoroscopy and ultrasound. Active involvement in numerous multidisciplinary meetings within a busy teaching hospital are also an important part of my collaborative team approach to work.
Additional to a full clinical role as a Consultant in the radiology department, between 2001 and 2017 I enjoyed several senior managerial positions, including clinical director posts and Chief of a large clinical division.
Active leadership continued through participating and chairing multiple boards within the hospital, the local Trust, regional boards and also at the Royal College of Radiologists, Clinical Reference Groups etc.
Particular enjoyment came from close involvement of the design and early implementation of the ambitious 3T building project for the Royal Sussex County Hospital. I also continue to be active in teaching and education.
Some of the principal treatments carried out by Dr Graham Dodge at Spire include:
British Medical Association
Royal College of Radiologists
Radiological Society of North America
Royal Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene
I have been a keen dinghy sailor but took a year off from work to sail around the world in the Clipper RTW Race 2017-18 on the yacht ’Liverpool 2018’, strengthening my love of sailing and adventure.
My imaging expertise and managerial experience are being used for benefit in Low and Middle Income Countries (LMICs) through my charitable involvement. Imaging in The Gambia has already benefited from this experience, as has a more recent medical research expedition to Madagascar (“Madex”) - investigating and treating a parasitic infection in children. Being a trustee of a charity to support imaging services, and related education, in LMICs further complements my values.
