Specialises in
I am a Consultant Cardiologist currently working at Lancashire Cardiac Centre, Blackpool Victoria Hospital as the Director of Interventional Cardiology. I am specialised in the field of coronary artery disease, advanced percutaneous coronary intervention, valvular heart disease and percutaneous replacement of aortic valve (TAVI).
I perform a wide variety of percutaneous coronary interventions with state-of-the-art technologies to optimise the results and achieve the best outcomes for my patients. These include balloon angioplasty, stent implantation, rotational and orbital atherectomy to deal with calcified arteries, shockwave balloon lithotripsy, advanced intracoronary imaging with OCT / IVUS, and intracoronary physiology with microvascular assessment using FFR, IFR, CFR, IMR. I also perform TAVI procedure for the replacement of the aortic valve in case of severe stenosis through a minimally invasive procedure which is done under local anaesthesia.
I am particularly specialised and well recognised in the Lancashire Cardiac Centre for performing high risk and complex coronary interventions such as those who are not surgical candidates, failed previous surgery, chronic total occlusion, and challenging coronary anatomy. I am one of few operators who are well trained for performing simple and complex coronary interventions without using any contrast throughout the procedure to minimise the risk of kidney damage for those with impaired kidney function.
Areas of interest include assessment of chest pain, breathlessness, palpitations, syncope, dizzy spell, blackout, reduced exercise tolerance and fatigue. I provide service for the management of a wide variety of cardiac disorders including coronary artery disease, cardiac rhythm disorders, heart failure and cardiomyopathy, valvular heart disease and hypertension.
Up to date, I have performed more than 2,200 percutaneous stenting and balloon procedures, more than 400 intracoronary imaging procedures, more than 500 intracoronary physiology procedures, 85 coronary atherectomy, more than 200 high risk coronary stenting and surgical turn down cases and 55 stenting to chronic total occlusion procedures.
I am the Director of interventional cardiology service at Blackpool Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and a member of the Regional Cardiac Network in Lancashire and South Cumbria.
I was awarded Master of Science and PhD degrees in Cardiology, 2010 and 2014 respectively. I have an extensive publication record with more than 30 scientific papers in high impact journals as well as ample abstract presentations worldwide. I have performed a large number of scientific presentations at national and international levels. I am currently the lead for audits and quality improvement projects at the Cardiology department in Blackpool Victoria Hospital.
