Dr Jenan Al-Bayati

GP

MBChB, DFSRH, MRCGP

I have been in General Practice since 2004 and was the first private GP at Spire Wellesley Hospital since the service started in October 2017. I consider myself to be compassionate and understanding of people’s needs in stressful situations.

I have a wide range of experience in most aspects of General Practice including: general women’s problems, child health and paediatrics, mental health, stress and anxiety, skin complaints like eczema, acne and allergy, bowel problems, urinary problems, blood pressure, concerns about cholesterol, earache, sore throat and cough, joint pains and general aches and pains. I am a keen reader and am fascinated by human psychology and all aspects of mental health.

I was born in Rochford, Essex while my parents were training for their surgical careers at Southend Hospital (my father is a surgeon and my mother is an obstetrician). I lived my young years between England and Baghdad in Iraq. I completed my undergraduate medical training at the College of Medicine (Al-Mustansiriyah University) in Baghdad and passed my final MBChB exams there. I was awarded my Medical Degree (MBChB) in June 1995 and soon after my graduation I decided to come back to settle down in the UK and have been here for over 20 years.

My initial experience of a hospital in the UK was at St George’s Hospital in London, where I completed a clinical attachment in A&E. I went on to do my exams and started my training as a House Officer in Surgery at Diana Princess of Wales Hospital in Lincolnshire. I then went on to do my House Officer post in General Medicine at Colchester General Hospital.

After which I started my specialist training which comprised three years of six months posts in various hospitals including: Care of the Elderly at Colchester Hospital, Histopathology at Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton, Obstetrics and Gynaecology at Epsom General Hospital in Surrey, Psychiatry at Cefn Coed Hospital in Swansea, Paediatrics at Milton Keynes Hospital and an additional one month post in Psychiatry at Warely Hospital in Brentwood, Essex. This was followed by my GP registrar training as part of the London Deanery training programme in Petersfield surgery in Romford, Essex, for one year to qualify as a GP in 2005. Since then I have worked in various local surgeries as a locum or salaried doctor.

I undertake regular courses including: annual appraisals, regular attendance to GP refresher courses at Southend Hospital or in GP update or hot topics meetings in London, annual update of my CPR certificate for BLS, Basic Life Support, and regular update of safeguarding children up to level 3.

I have over 15 years' experience in general practice and have worked in many local surgeries including Highlands Surgery and Pall Mall Surgery in Leigh, Great Wakering Surgery, The Puzey Practice in Rochford, Southchurch Boulevard surgery, Rushbottom Lane Surgery in Benfleet in addition to a few more.

Outside of medicine and in my leisure time I enjoy listening to pop, classical and Arabic music, and used to play the piano. I enjoy attending music concerts and I also like to spend time doing Yoga and meditation and try to keep active by walking in nature, aerobic exercise and dancing. I enjoy watching interior design programmes and following different painting and art programmes online. I like to visit art galleries, I like fashion and textile design and recently developed a special interest in 'slow fashion' and what some companies are trying to do to contribute to saving our environment.
