Specialises in
I am a Consultant with specialist registration in hepatology, gastroenterology and general medicine. I specialise in all aspects of liver disease including liver transplant. I lead the Young Adult and Wilson's Disease services at the Leeds Teaching Hospitals Trust (LTHT).
My other areas of interest are acute liver failure, haemochromatosis, cirrhosis, fatty liver disease, autoimmune liver disease, drug induced liver disease, alcohol-related liver disease, hepatitis and ascites.
With over 20 years' experience, I am an integral member of the LTHT liver team and see patients from across the North of England and Wales with a wide variety of liver problems from abnormal liver function tests to advanced cirrhosis and those requiring liver transplant. I offer gastroscopy (endoscopy) and access to all main tests for liver conditions including blood tests, ultrasound, CT and MRI scans. I also perform fibroscans.
I am widely published in numerous peer-reviewed publications, have been an advisor to the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) and am an author of national guidelines. I have an MD from Edinburgh University following my research into acute liver failure and the pioneering use of stem cell therapy for cirrhosis.
A Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh, I represent the college across Yorkshire. Passionate about training the next generation of doctors, I hold post-graduate qualifications in medical education. I set up and am the secretary for the national BASL Acute Liver Failure Specialist Interest Group.
