I am a Consultant Cardiologist and Electrophysiologist at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Birmingham - one of the busiest cardiac and heart rhythm centres in the UK.
I undertook my training and research in Oxford and prior to taking up my Consultant post, spent a year in the world renowned lab of Professor Jon Kalman at the Royal Melbourne Hospital.
I specialise in cardiac electrophysiology which encompasses the management of patients with heart rhythm problems. My specific expertise focuses on the assessment, treatment and catheter ablation of arrhythmia including supraventricular tachycardia, atrial fibrillation and, ventricular tachycardia.
I am also responsible for the inherited arrhythmia syndromes clinic where I look after patients with familial heart rhythm or heart muscle conditions.
I have been performing interventional EP procedures for SVT, AF and VT since 2014, and as a Consultant since 2018. Furthermore, I have implanted over 600 cardiac devices (pacemakers, defibrillators). I am the Director of the Advanced Electrophysiology Fellowship programme at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital. We attract trainees from the UK and Europe to our well established programme.
My focus on improving clinical care drives my interest in research. I hold an honorary research position and the University of Birmingham and and working towards establishing an AF research group with collaborators in Oxford and Melbourne.
In 2011, I was awarded a British Heart Foundation Research Fellowship in Oxford to investigate the mechanisms that lead to life threatening heart rhythms leading to being awarded a DPhil in 2016. My work has been presented and published at international meetings and high-impact journals, and I was awarded the British Heart Rhythm Society Young Investigator Prize in 2014. I continue to maintain an active research programme with ongoing collaborative projects in Birmingham, Oxford and Melbourne.
