I have a keen interest in all aspects of clinical gastroenterology, particularly diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopy, colonoscopy and ERCP. I recently set up a video capsule endoscopy service for examination of the small intestine with a swallowed pill camera.
I provide a wide ranging therapeutic endoscopy service including Polyp removal (polypectomy) and endoscopic mucosal resection (EMR) in the stomach and colon, oesophageal stricture balloon dilatation and variceal banding. In conjunction with a fellow Gastroenterologist I provide the majority of endoscopic stenting for oesophageal, duodenal and biliary obstruction and recently introduced a colonic stenting service for bowel obstruction.
I have a large clinical practice in inflammatory bowel disease. I maintain a large endoscopic workload performing over 1,200 Upper GI endoscopies, 500 Colonoscopies (caecal intubation rate more than 95%) and 130 ERCPs cannulation rate (biliary cannulation more than 90%) per annum.
I have a long established clinical practice in all aspects of gastroenterology and follow up a large cohort of patients with inflammatory bowel disease, liver and biliary disease and runs the National IBD Audit programme for the Worcestershire Hospitals. In 2007 I set up a video capsule endoscopy (VCE service) to allow detailed imaging of the small intestine mucosa and to date have performed over 260 procedures.
I trained at Birmingham Medical School in spring 2000. My MD thesis at University Hospital Nottingham was in gastro-intestinal injury associated with NSAIDS. I was appointed senior registrar in gastroenterology at Edinburgh Royal Infirmary before appointment as Consultant Gastroenterologist at City Hospital Birmingham in 1995. I moved to Worcester Royal Infirmary in spring 2000.
