"The facilities at Spire St Anthony's Hospital are excellent and the staff are very committed to optimal patient care."
I am a Consultant Cardiologist and Interventionalist practising in London and Surrey. I graduated from St George's Hospital Medical School in London in 2002, achieving a Merit in Clinical Management. I subsequently undertook a postgraduate Interventional Research Fellowship leading to the award of an MD. I specialise in all areas of general cardiology, with particular expertise in coronary angioplasty and stenting, including complex techniques and intravascular imaging.
I see adult patients with a range of cardiac symptoms, including chest pain, breathlessness, palpitations, dizzy spells and blackouts. I also investigate and manage patients with cardiac risk factors, including high blood pressure and cholesterol. My particular interest is in the prevention and treatment of coronary heart disease and I perform a high volume of coronary angioplasty and stenting, including complex techniques, such as rotational atherectomy and chronic total occlusions.
I have performed a large volume of coronary angioplasty/stent procedures to date. I undertake detailed physiological and anatomical assessment of coronary arteries, including pressure wire studies and intracoronary imaging with intravascular ultrasound (IVUS) and optical coherence tomography (OCT). I also arrange ECG monitoring, blood pressure monitoring, tilt table tests, echocardiograms, stress echocardiograms and cardiac MRI scans as necessary and insert implantable loop recorders for long term monitoring of patients with palpitations, dizzy spells or collapses.
My research interests are in the prevention and treatment of coronary stent thrombosis and intravascular imaging and I have completed an MD thesis in this subject. I have co-ordinated and been a co-investigator for numerous national and international clinical trials and research studies and have published articles in high impact peer reviewed journals, as well as writing several book chapters.
I am involved in teaching medical students from St George's Hospital Medical School and from overseas and train cardiology junior doctors and interventional fellows in all aspects of general cardiology and coronary intervention. I am a clinical supervisor to a number of cardiology trainees and educational supervisor to the cardiology registrar on the team. I regularly provide educational talks to GPs and training sessions for general medical and cardiology colleagues.
