I am a Consultant Cardiologist with a wide range of expertise in general cardiology with special interest in coronary artery disease (heart attacks, angina) and valvular heart disease. I specialise in undertaking invasive treatments of heart artery blockages (coronary angioplasty) and have particular expertise in TAVI (transcatheter aortic valve replacement/implantation) that is one of the newer treatments of aortic stenosis.

My post allows me to undertake high volume complex coronary intervention (more than 300 percutaneous coronary interventions a year) and transcatheter aortic valve implantation (more than 50 a year).

My primary cardiology training was in Edinburgh, where I undertook my highly successful clinical PhD, followed by training in general and interventional cardiology. After undertaking the BCIS Fellowship in Vancouver Island, Canada, I have been appointed as Consultant Interventional Cardiologist at the University Hospitals Bristol.

I am also active academically as an honorary senior lecturer at the University of Bristol, and have been recently awarded the highly competitive Clinical Academic Research Partnership Award by the Medical Research Council.

I believe in empowering patients with current clinical evidence about their condition, so that they can make a well informed decision about the treatment options available to them.

My research on vulnerable high-risk coronary atherosclerotic plaques has resulted in several major awards, publications and subsequent research grants. Indeed, I was recipient of the Josephine Lansdell Award (principal investigator) for research in heart disease. For the research contributions, I was part of the consortium invited to the Buckingham Palace for the Queen's Anniversary Award (research team award to University of Edinburgh).

I have presented my research at the highly prestigious European Society of Cardiology Hotline sessions in Barcelona and was chosen as the Thomas J. Linnemeier Spirit of Interventional Cardiology Young Investigator Finalist at TCT in 2016 Denver, USA. I was a finalist at the Young Investigator Awards at the American College of Cardiology Scientific Sessions, San Francisco and Advanced Coronary Intervention - BCIS, and the BCS in London.
