I am a Consultant in Clinical Neurophysiology. My NHS practice is at the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital where I've held a substantive post since 2020, offering a full neuromuscular service with the use of nerve conduction studies (NCS) and electromyography (EMG) in the diagnosis of nerve and neuromuscular disorders (eg carpal tunnel syndrome, ulnar neuropathy, nerve root entrapment, peripheral nerve injuries, myopathies, myasthenia gravis and motor neurone disease).
As a Neurophysiology Consultant, my work is largely diagnostic and involves performing and interpreting electrophysiological tests (NCS and EMG) for complaints such as numbness, tingling, sciatica, pain, weakness, muscle fatigue, muscle wasting, muscle twitching, trapped nerves and to provide a prognosis for traumatic nerve injuries.
I also specialise in other diagnostic tests of the nervous system such as Electroencephalography (EEG - both routine and more prolonged home video recording), as well as evoked potentials (EPs of the visual and sensory systems). These tests are currently only offered at my NHS base hospital.
As these diagnostic tests are unfamiliar to most patients, I am more than happy to explain what they entail and how they will help in diagnosis and treatment.
I qualified in medicine from King's College London in 2009. I subsequently undertook neurology training at St George's Hospital (Tooting), King's College Hospital and performed research at Queens Square Hospital. I then completed specialist training in Clinical Neurophysiology at Addenbrooke's Hospital, Cambridge, as well as Great Ormond Street Hospital.
In 2020, I was appointed as a Consultant in Clinical Neurophysiology at Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital, where I hold a significant role, both performing my own clinical work as well as supervising technical staff and the education and training of junior doctors. I also have a lecturing role at the University of East Anglia (UEA) medical school.
