MD, FRCP
Specialises in
Virtual consultations:
I have over 10 years' experience in all aspects of diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopy and colonoscopy, and an MD Thesis in Malabsorption from the University of London.
I have specialist interest in gastroenterology and liver diseases. I am interested in the assessment of patients with functional bowel disorders, such as irritable bowel syndrome. I am also interested in symptoms that are difficult to diagnose that are often of a functional nature. In my practice as a Hepatologist I look after all aspects of liver disease leading up to transplantation.
My aim is to provide a comprehensive service with a close and highly skilled team of the best radiologists, surgeons and pathologists to obtain quick diagnosis and effective treatment. Patients with gallstones and hepatobiliary disease and patients with pain from the bile duct or pancreas are fully assessed using all the therapeutic endoscopic techniques, including biliary manometry for pain syndromes for which there appears to be no cause.
The investigations developed have included standard endoscopy and colonoscopy, but also supplementing these with wireless assessment of gastric function (BRAVO) - the assessment of acid reflux that can affect the mouth and lungs (RESTECH monitoring). Where medical treatment has failed I use the new non-surgical techniques that I learned in the USA, STRETTA. I am part of one of two centres in the UK undertaking this day case procedure for patients who have symptoms due to reflux.
I have a close professional link with King's College Hospital, Institute of Liver Studies, where I was previously a Consultant and have pioneered the use of non-invasive testing for liver disease including Fibroscan. I run the regional service for this investigation in the South West.

I am a keen cyclist and each year take part in Sportive events around Europe. My young children fill many hours with joy and distraction. Otherwise, conversion of a period property and gardens in Bristol provide equal amounts of frustration and pleasure!
