I completed Specialist Registrar training in Gastroenterology in the North West Deanery. Following a two year period of research into gastric cancer, I was awarded the Doctorate of Medicine (MD) degree (University of Liverpool). I subsequently trained in advanced endoscopic techniques (colonoscopy, ERCP) as an advanced endoscopy fellow in the professorial unit at the Royal Liverpool University Hospital (2011-2012)
I was a Consultant Gastroenterologist at Blackpool Teaching Hospital from 2012 to 2024. I was head of the department of gastroenterology and Endoscopy lead from 2018 to 2022.
In June 2024 I was invited to work as a Consultant Gastroenterologist at the Royal Liverpool University Teaching Hospital with regional specialists providing expert management in all aspects of gastroenterology, hepatology and endoscopy.
I have been providing private patient services at Spire Fylde Coast Hospital since 2014. I am a certified endoscopy trainer and teach at the Mersey School of Endoscopy (National Endoscopy Training Centre) and held the post of Director of the Lancashire and South Cumbria North West Endoscopy Academy (2022 - 2024). I am one of the trainers for endoscopy trainers in the region. I continue to maintain my accreditation and competencies including endoscopy key performance indices.
I am also an accredited Bowel Cancer Screening Colonoscopist.
I am actively involved in clinical research which helps patients to get up to date and evidence based care. The patient remains the heart of my clinical care and as such I have received excellent patient and colleague feedback. Through all the above roles I have extensive working relations with surgical and radiological colleagues locally and in tertiary referral centres such as Leeds, Liverpool and Manchester both within NHS and private sectors.
My areas of specialist skills are endoscopy (all aspects of diagnostic, therapeutic such as polyp removal, and cancer surveillance of the oesophagus, stomach and colon), bowel cancer screening, colonoscopy, diseases of the liver, bile ducts and pancreas (including ERCP), dyspepsia management (heartburn, indigestion), irritable bowel syndrome and inflammatory bowel disease (crohn’s and colitis).
