I became a Consultant Rheumatologist at the University Hospital of Wales and Caerphilly District Miners' Hospital in 1998. I have been a consultant with Spire since 2001. My MD thesis was aspects of psoriatic arthritis and I have a particular clinical interest in ankylosing spondylitis and the spondyloarthropathies.
I perform joint and soft tissue injections including all peripheral joints (knee, wrist, ankle, shoulder, elbow etc) and bursae (greater trochanteric bursa around hip and subacromial bursa of shoulder) and tendon sheaths of fingers. I closely co-operate with the radiologists when and ultrasound- guided procedure may be indicated.
I have performed many thousands of injections since qualification.
I am Clinical Director for Rheumatology, directing a large and busy department in the largest Welsh teaching hospital. I also Chair the Specialist Advisory Committee for Rheumatology Trainees, over-seeing the training of All Wales Rheumatology.
I am an Honorary Clinical Tutor for Cardiff University.
I have contributed to Arthritis-related charitable work including NASS (National Ankylosing Spondylitis Society), NRAS (National Rheumatoid Arthritis Society) and Arthritis Care.
