I am an experienced consultant specialising in the non-surgical management of breast cancer. This includes chemotherapy, radiotherapy to breast (both external beam and intra-operative radiotherapy), genetic testing, endocrine therapy, biological therapies, immunotherapy and advice on lifestyle factors to reduce risk of cancer recurrence.
I graduated from the University of Wales College of Medicine, Cardiff in 1995 and became a member of the Royal College of Physicians (UK) in 1999. Having chosen to specialise in clinical oncology, I trained as a specialist registrar in London, working at nationally renowned cancer centres at UCL The Middlesex Hospital, The Royal Free and The Royal Marsden Hospital amongst others. I became a Fellow of the Royal College of Radiologists (UK) in 2003.
I undertook a fellowship in head and neck radiation oncology at The Princess Margaret Hospital, Toronto, Canada where I was awarded the prize for Academic Excellence, by the Princess Margaret Hospital and University of Toronto, for my research looking at the use of PETCT for identifying tumours of the head and neck for treatment with radiotherapy. This research was presented at international conferences including the annual meeting of the Canadian Association of Radiation Oncologists (CARO) in British Columbia and the American Society for Therapeutic Radiology and Oncology (ASTRO) in Colorado, Philadelphia and at the European Society of Therapeutic Radiation and Oncology (ESTRO).
I returned to the UK after my fellowship and was appointed Consultant Clinical Oncologist at The Oxford University Hospitals NHS Trust in 2008. I have a substantive consultant position and am based at the Churchill Hospital in Oxford and also the Great Western Hospital, Swindon and BMI The Ridgeway in Wroughton.
Having a diagnosis of breast cancer is a very stressful time. I am here to guide patients through the bewildering treatment options, at every stage throughout their journey. I believe in empowering patients to make the right decisions for themselves and their families, with honest jargon free discussions, centred on what’s important to the individual.
