I have been working as a Senior Rheumatology Consultant in the NHS since 2012. I am currently working at the Medway Maritime Hospital and the Clinical Lead for the rheumatology service at my hospital. My rheumatology service covers Medway and Swale area, we also provide this service in Dartford area, so covering >935,000 population.
I see all areas of Rheumatology problems including: Osteoarthritis, Rheumatoid arthritis, Psoriatic arthritis, Ankylosing Spondylitis (Axial Spondyloarthritis), Osteoporosis, Gout, Pseudogout, Reactive arthritis, Lupus (SLE), Sjogren's syndrome, Scleroderma, Myositis, Vasculitis, Behcet's, Sarcoidosis, PMR (Polymyalgia Rheumatica), Temporal arteritis, Fibromyalgia, Tendinitis, Bursitis, Soft tissue Rheumatism, Chronic back pain, Sciatica, Neck pain, Lumbar and Cervical spondylosis, Wrist pain, Feet pain, Ankle pain, Plantar fasciitis, Achilles tendinitis, Tennis elbow, Golfer's elbow, Trigger fingers, Shoulder pain (Rotator cuff syndrome), Carpal tunnel syndrome, Paget's disease and Hypermobility.
I am fully competent and confident in all the joint injections (both larger as well as smaller joints), joint aspirations, also injections for tendons, bursa and carpal tunnel. I am also a trainer of joint injections for my junior colleagues, also have been trainer for GP and MSK colleagues in joint injection training days.
I believe in the recent concept of 'Treat to target' with tight control of the disease which leads to better long-term outcome. I aim to offer holistic treatment rather than managing only joint problems. I also support individuals in self-management of their problems, so they can achieve the best possible quality of life with self-confidence. I believe in good communication with patients I work with, so they have a better understanding of their treatment plan. I believe in ‘no decision about me without me’ which empowers my patients and have shared decision making in the care I provide. This gives me high levels of satisfaction in providing care to my patients.
In my current role I am guardian of safe working hours for the postgraduate doctors (previously called junior doctor). Previously, I was also a Clinical lead in teaching 'long term condition block' for fourth year medical students from King's College, London. I am interested in teaching and development of my junior colleagues. I am also an appraiser for few of my fellow consultants and post graduate doctors.
After completing my training in medicine and getting MBBS degree, I completed my post graduate training in North England (2001-2005). I was awarded with MRCP (Member of Royal College of Physicians, UK) in 2003. Later on, I joined the higher specialist training programme in South London and Kent. During this period, I worked at Lewisham Hospital, Maidstone Hospital, Princess Royal University Hospital (Farnborough), Queen Elizabeth Hospital (Woolwich) and King's College Hospital. I also completed my MSc degree in Rheumatology from King's College, London. Later, I was also awarded MRCP (Rheumatology) degree.
