I am experienced in all aspects of cardiology and am an expert in coronary intervention (angioplasty and stent insertion). I have been an NHS Consultant Cardiologist at Worthing Hospital and Honorary Consultant at Brighton and Sussex University Hospital since 2010.
I have performed over 3,000 coronary angioplasty procedures (almost 90% from the radial artery which is above the national average of 75%), and have been performing this procedure since 2005, with the following experience: two years at the Heart Hospital, UCL, one year at St Bartholomew’s Hospital, two years at The London Chest Hospital and at Worthing & Royal Sussex County Hospitals since 2010. I have an excellent safety profile. I submit the details and outcomes of my surgery to the national body, BCIS. My outcomes are independently tracked by BCIS via the Office of National Statistics.
I manage patients with heart valve disease, with a biweekly NHS clinic, and have set up a multidisciplinary endocarditis team which manages patients with severe heart valve infections. I also perform transthoracic and transoesophageal echocardiography and liaises closely through multidisciplinary meetings with cardiac radiology colleagues to offer a complete complex cardiac imaging programme through with MRI and CT. I have an interest in managing complex stroke patients who have underlying cardiovascular disease.
I am an expert in cardiac catheterisation and coronary angioplasty both from the radial (wrist) and femoral (groin) approaches. My expertise extends to primary angioplasty for emergency treatment of heart attack and to complex intervention for the treatment of diabetic heart disease, patients turned down for cardiac surgery, bifurcation (side-branch), chronic occlusion (longstanding coronary artery blockages), bypass graft failure and left main stem, using pressure wire, intravascular ultrasound and rotational atherectomy (rotablation). I also implant and manage patients with pacemakers, defibrillators (ICD) and loop recorders.
Born and raised in Berkshire, I qualified from Southampton University Medical School with First Class Honours and Distinction in Medical Sciences and also achieved a First Class Honours BSc in Biomedical Sciences. My senior Cardiology clinical training was completed on the London rotation where I was an interventional fellow for five years at three centres of international excellence - The Heart Hospital (University College Hospitals London), St Bartholomew's Hospital and The London Chest Hospital, where I was instrumental in the setting up of a Transcatheter Aortic Valve Implantation programme (keyhole valve surgery).
