MBBS,MD, FRCP
I am a Consultant Physician in Endocrinology and Diabetes at University Hospitals Liverpool since 2017. I have completed my specialty training from Liverpool including a period of research resulting in the award of an MD degree in obesity. I have extensive experience in managing all aspects of diabetes and endocrinology. In endocrinology, my expertise covers disorders of thyroid, parathyroid, pituitary and adrenal glands, bone health, metabolic health as well as reproductive and women’s health including polycystic ovaries and menopause.
I am experienced in managing both type 1 and type 2 diabetes including management of diabetes related neuropathy. I have a particular interest in the management of type 2 diabetes, especially in the context of weight management using medications and lifestyle in conjunction. I am keen to support patients to achieve type 2 diabetes remission through diet and lifestyle measures, using an individualised approach.
I strive to provide compassionate, patient-centred care that meets the expectations of my patient, and take pride in my excellent listening and communication skills.
I have several leadership roles. As a Clinical Director, I have successfully led the department of endocrinology and diabetes at Liverpool University Hospitals, Aintree site, through the biggest expansion and service reconfiguration, resulting in excellent patient outcomes and staff satisfaction. In this role, I have developed and implemented new service models, expanded the staffing numbers, ensured compliance with national guidance (NICE) and worked closely with stakeholders to ensure highest standards of patient care.
I am currently the Diabetes Clinical Lead for Cheshire and Merseyside Clinical Network where my role involves supporting the integrated clinical board and the NHS trusts in the region to implement plans for improving diabetes care and pilot novel projects, as well as to reduce variation in patient care. I am also the Deputy Clinical Lead of innovation for University Hospitals Liverpool.
I am passionate about improving patient care and work with Diabetes UK in my own time as a diabetes UK clinical champion. I lead the diabetes foot services at Aintree Hospital and have implemented the role of diabetes foot coordinator, resulting in improved patient satisfaction and reduction in length of stay in hospital.
