Dr Turab Ali

I am an experienced consultant cardiologist / interventional cardiologist working at Arrowe Park Hospital and Liverpool Heart & Chest Hospital, in addition to Spire Murrayfield Hospital.

I deal with all aspects of general cardiology (chest pain, shortness of breath, palpitations, dizziness and blackouts etc.). I also look after patients with heart failure / cardiomyopathy, hypertension, heart valve disease, athlete’s heart, use of blood thinners and all kinds of heart rhythm disturbances including Atrial Fibrillation. I take keen interest in advising on primary / secondary prevention in cardiovascular disease (heart attack and stroke prevention).

I also have special interest in assessing patients for their fitness from cardiac point for non-cardiac surgery under GA, and provide advice / fitness to drive (DVLA) / travel / fly / exercise.

I provide services for doing ECG, holter heart monitor, echocardiogram, exercise tolerance test, dobutamine / exercise stress echocardiogram, tilt table test and cardio-pulmonary exercise testing; and interpretation the results and providing advice on cardiac CT scan and cardiac MRI scan.

I sub-specialise in interventional cardiology and have special expertise in medical treatment of chest pain / angina / heart attack, and do both non-invasive and invasive assessment. Additionally I am expert in all sorts of simple / complex percutaneous coronary interventions (balloon angioplasty + stenting to coronary arteries), and make appropriate referrals for coronary artery bypass surgery.

I have done >10,000 percutaneous cardiac procedures including coronary angiogram, right heart catheterisation, graft study, simple / complex angioplasty, intra-coronary imaging, pressure wire assessment, rotablation / Laser / cutting balloon, thrombectomy, myocardial biopsy, Intra-Aortic Balloon Pump insertion, temporary pacing wire, pericardiocentecis etc.

I deal with matters of clinical governance in NHS, and advise patients (and law firms) on the medico-legal aspects of the cardiology / interventional cardiology, and do expert witness reporting for court of laws in medical negligence cases.

I am also a Primary PCI lead and MINAP lead for Wirral University Teaching Hospital.
