Miss Frances Hughes

Miss Frances Hughes

Consultant General Surgeon

MB BS, MS, FRCS (England) FRCS (General Surgery)

I qualified from the London Hospital Medical College in 1988 and immediately entered surgical training. I undertook my training at a number of London hospitals, spending some time at centres of excellence in both Japan and Australia, and gained a wide range of experience in general surgery as well as developing my expertise in gastrointestinal surgery. I undertook research at the Royal London Hospital in the field of gut motility, and was awarded the degree of Master of Surgery. I was appointed as consultant surgeon in 2000, at Southend Hospital and provide services at Southend and at two major hospitals in London.

Throughout my career I have developed an expertise in all aspects of abdominal surgery, including surgery of the gallbladder, stomach, oesophagus and intestines, and hernias.

I provide expert care in the diagnosis and treatment of surgical conditions of the gastrointestinal system and have many years of experience in undertaking minimal access surgery (keyhole surgery) in patients, aiding the rapid recovery from their operation.

I am a nationally accredited trainer for general and laparoscopic surgery, and am closely involved with the training of surgeons, locally, nationally and internationally.

I welcome appropriate patients wishing to refer and pay for treatment themselves without the need for a GP's letter of referral.

Below is feedback from some of my patients at Spire Wellesley Hospital:

'I believe that miss Hughes explained everything about the job in hand and I was happy with the way it all went.'
