Miss Nahid Gul

Miss Nahid Gul

Consultant Gynaecological Pelvic Robotic & Laparoscopic Surgeon

MBBS, MRCOG, FRCOG, FICRS

I undertake almost all gynaecological procedures especially hysterectomy laproscopically since 2010. In 2022 I was awarded Level 2 Neuropelveology. I am now one of few accredited consultants in the UK qualified in Neuropelveology, an advanced field in pelvic surgery.

My conversion of open cases to laparoscopic means our departmental open hysterectomy rate is less than 1%. I believe in progression and use of modern state of art technology to improve patient care and hence undertook a fellowship in robotic assisted gynaecological surgery. I introduced gynaecological robotic surgery at Wirral University Teaching Hospital in 2013, providing surgery for complex gynaecological problems for women referred from other hospitals.

My specialist interest is treatment of endometriosis, prolapse and gynaecological pre-cancer and cancer. Early diagnosis is the key for early treatment of cancer; hence I use my expert clinical acumen and am an accredited colposcopist and vulvoscopist.

I trained in the West Midlands as a Specialist Registrar in obstetrics and gynaecology with interest in gynaecological cancer, complex benign gynaecological surgery, colposcopy and vulval diseases. Working in three tertiary large centres I gained extensive experience in complex pelvic open and vaginal surgery. After completing CCST, I did a one year post CCST fellowship in gynaeoncology at Birmingham Cancer Centre.

I was appointed as a consultant at Wirral University Teaching Hospital in 2001 as a Consultant Lead for Gynaeoncology and Colposcopy. After centralisation of gynae cancers in 2007, I further developed my interest in minimal invasive surgery working with expert colleagues and attending appropriate national and international training courses.

My research interest remains understanding immunological basis of cancer and development of safe surgical techniques. I enjoy teaching and training other specialists. I believe training of surgeons is an ongoing necessity and anatomy remains the key to successful surgery. Every few years I regularly attend cadaveric anatomy courses to refresh my knowledge. My current aim is to understand anatomy and physiology of pelvic nerves and pelvic floor.
