"I believe that women can often care for other women with greater understanding, and it is important for them to be able to access female gynaecologists when symptoms arise."
I have been a Consultant Gynaecological Oncologist for over five years and have a wealth of experience in managing women at all stages of presentation with cancer.
I am a specialist in managing disorders of the vulva, for which I am the regional Complex Vulva Disorders Lead. I am accredited with the British Society of Colposcopy and Cervical Pathology as a Colposcopist. In addition, I am expert in minimal access surgery for treating benign conditions and cancer.
I believe in providing holistic care for women and this is reflected in the positive feedback I receive from patients. I believe that women can often care for other women with greater understanding, and it is important for them to be able to access female gynaecologists when symptoms arise.
Upon qualifying in 2003, I trained in Obstetrics and Gynaecology in Northern Ireland and the West of Scotland. In 2011, I further sub-specialised in Gynaecological Oncology in Gateshead whilst gaining a Masters in Clinical Research from Newcastle University.
I am the Lead for the weekly Regional Gynaecological Cancer meetings, which receive referrals from the North East and Cumbria, and encompasses a female population of over 2.5million women. In addition, I am the Cancer Lead for Surgical Specialties at Gateshead Health NHS Foundation Trust.
In addition to my clinical work I hold several positions with the British Gynaecological Cancer Society, including representing the North of England at Council, liaising with the National Institute of Clinical Excellence (NICE), and contributing to the Guidelines Committee.
