Specialises in
I have over 15 years experience in the NHS and specialise in complex cataract surgery (including IOL exchange), vitreo-retinal surgery (for floaters, epiretinal membranes, macular holes and retinal detachment), retinal diseases, general ophthalmology and diabetic eye disease.
I have performed thousands of cataract and vitreoretinal procedures with a much lower than national average complication rate (<1%). I use the most up to date and safest techniques, and regularly review outcomes and new technologies as they become established.
I have experience of the American, Canadian, South African and French healthcare systems so appreciate how different systems all have their own benefits and place in providing a high-quality and comprehensive service for patients.
I am a clear communicator who will listen to you as a patient and help you make the best decision to achieve your visual goals and decide on a treatment pathway.
I trained at Imperial College in London, followed by the John Radcliffe hospital in Oxford before completing my ophthalmology training in Yorkshire. I now lead the vitreo-retinal service at Calderdale and Huddersfield NHS Trust.
Some of the principal treatments carried out by Mr Aidan Benson at Spire include:
