MB ChB MD FRCS(Ed)
I am a Consultant General and Colorectal Surgeon at Walsall Manor Hospital. I specialise in general and colorectal surgery with a particular interest in the management of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) and pelvic floor problems including faecal incontinence and rectal prolapse.
I completed my surgical training in all aspects of colorectal and general surgery in the West Midlands and Lincolnshire. During my training, I took time out to undertake a clinical research post at the University of Leicester. I was awarded an MD for research into the treatment of colorectal cancer using compounds derived from cruciferous vegetables eg sprouts. After completing training, I undertook a post-CCT fellowship in pelvic floor dysfunction before taking up my present post as Consultant General and Colorectal Surgeon.
In conjunction with my clinical work, I have an interest in surgical education at both undergraduate and postgraduate level. I am actively involved in teaching medical students and am the supervisor for a number of surgical trainees.
Throughout my career, I have been interested in research and have published a number of papers on various aspects of colorectal surgery and surgical education.
