MBBS, BSc, MSc, MRCS(Eng), FRCS(Plast)
I studied medicine at the internationally renowned University College London Medical School, where I took a second degree in psychology, passing with honours. I returned to University College London to complete a masters degree in surgical sciences in 2001. I am currently an NHS Consultant Plastic Surgeon specialising in breast surgery and work at the Morriston Hospital, Swansea and Llandough Hospital.
I have spent almost 20 years working in the field of plastic surgery. In my early plastic surgery career I worked extensively in central London hospitals including The Royal London Hospital, The Royal Marsden Hospital, Great Ormond Street and Harley Street. I also spent time at the Oxford Radcliffe Infirmary. In addition, I spent time working in Europe at the University Hospital Ghent, Belgium, an international centre of excellence for breast surgery and microsurgery.
During these years, I mastered a comprehensive approach to plastic surgery which I continue to use now. I have been trained by world leaders in breast and cosmetic surgery and have adapted many of these techniques into my own practice. I offer cosmetic and reconstructive breast procedures (augmentation, fat transfer, reduction, uplift, gynaecomastia, reconstruction after cancer surgery) as well as body contouring (liposuction, tummy tuck, arm, thigh and buttock lift) and facial procedures (brow lift, eyelid surgery, prominent ear reduction etc). I have acquired highly specialised skills in complex breast microsurgery including DIEP flaps and TUG flaps and offer all forms of breast reconstruction privately.
I have been instrumental in the development of the microsurgery service at the Morriston Hospital and am currently the clinical lead for microsurgery. I perform breast microsurgery, including DIEP and TUG flaps routinely on the NHS as well as local muscle flaps (latissimus dorsi) and implant surgery. I'm currently the only surgeon offering private microsurgical procedures in Wales (DIEP flap, TUG flap). In addition, I have developed the National Lymphoedema Surgery Service in Wales and offer this routinely on the NHS and privately. This includes lymphovenous anastomosis (LVA), large volume liposuction as well as lymph node transfer (LNT).
I provide training to the next generation of plastic surgeons through University based microsurgery courses as well as cosmetic training for junior plastic surgeons. I have written chapters on breast reconstruction for ELPRAS, the online educational tool for plastic surgeons. I have also trained consultant surgeons from the UK in lymphoedema supermicrosugery.
I enjoy talking directly to patients and have presented regularly at Breast Cancer Care meetings.
I have undertaken scientific research into facial form in London, recruiting patients from the Royal Free Hospital in Hampstead, London. I was awarded an MSc for my research thesis on analysing facial shape and movement, which was subsequently presented at the British Association of Plastic Surgeons Meeting in 2001. This research developed a new technique for analysing facial aesthetics and has given me a deep understanding of facial shape and form. In addition, this research laid the foundation for my cosmetic facial surgery practice. I have authored multiple publications in peer reviewed journals as well as written book chapters. My book chapter in 'Oncoplastic Surgery of the Breast' is used extensively by breast surgeons in the field of breast reconstruction.
