Mr Amjid Ali

I am a Consultant Orthopaedic Shoulder & Elbow Surgeon at the Northern General Hospital, with a busy private practice at Spire Claremont Hospital in Sheffield. A significant part of my work involves treating complex shoulder and elbow injuries in patients from Sheffield and the surrounding area.

I provide a specialist assessment and treatment service for most problems of the shoulder including arthritis, subacromial impingement, rotator cuff problems, frozen shoulder and instability.

In relation to elbow problems, I provide a specialist assessment and treatment service for arthritis, stiffness, Tennis/Golfer’s elbow, elbow instability and ulnar nerve compression.

I graduated from the University of Sheffield in 1996 and did my General Surgical and Specialist Orthopaedic training in Sheffield. i undertook my specialist Shoulder and Elbow Surgery training in Sydney, Australia and in The Shoulder and Elbow Unit at The Northern General Hospital in Sheffield.

I am actively involved in teaching and training. I am a faculty member on a number of local, national and European courses teaching physiotherapists, GPs, trainee surgeons and other consultants about the assessment and treatment of shoulder and elbow problems. I am an examiner for the Royal College of Surgeons Fellowship Examination in Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgery.

I am Course Director of The Royal College of Surgeons Shoulder Arthroscopy Course in London, Convener of The Biomet Upper Limb Summer University Course in Sheffield and Convener of the Upper Extremities Trauma Course in Barcelona, Spain.

In January 2008 I was appointed to Sheffield Teaching Hospitals as a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon specialising in shoulder and elbow surgery.

I have undertaken research into shoulder and elbow problems which has been published in peer reviewed journals and I have presented this work both nationally and internationally.
