Mr Andre Ismail

I am a Consultant Ophthalmic and Oculoplastic Surgeon. I am an experienced Ophthalmic Surgeon, and have performed several thousand cataract operations, including multifocal lens implants and lens replacement surgery. I am a trained General Ophthalmologist, and over many years have managed common eye conditions such as cataract, glaucoma and ocular surface issues. As an Oculoplastic Surgeon, I also have particular expertise in eyelid and lacrimal (tear duct) surgery. I continuously audit my surgical results to ensure the best outcome for my patients and to help update and develop my practice.

I was born and educated in North London. I qualified from Charing Cross and Westminister Medical School, London University in 1996, and underwent postgraduate medical training in Emergency Medicine, Neurosurgery and Ophthalmology in London, and the South East. After completing my general ophthalmic training, I spent two years in subspecialist fellowships in Oculoplastic & Lacrimal Surgery in Salisbury and at Moorfields Eye Hospital.

I have worked in private practice for over 15 years, and I am also a Consultant Ophthalmologist at West Hertfordshire Hospital NHS Trust. Here, I run a general ophthalmic and cataract service, set up the Eyelid and Lacrimal Service, and have been Clinical Director for Ophthalmology, receiving clinical excellence awards for my contribution to the department. I am a keen tutor and trainer for Trainee Ophthalmic Surgeons, and an Examiner for Medical Students undertaking final examinations.

As well as being a Fellow of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists, I am a member of the British Oculoplastic Surgery Society, and a Royal College of Surgeons Board Certified Periocular Cosmetic Surgeon.

At  Spire Bushey Hospital I see patients from North London, Hertfordshire and further afield. I like to treat each patient as an individual, and no matter how many times the same treatment is required, I like to ensure that every patient is fully understanding of their condition and treatment. I like to ensure excellent communication with my patients, and am always happy to answer questions directly or via my excellent secretarial support.
