Specialises in
I was appointed to Addenbrooke's, Cambridge in 2011 and returned to Edinburgh in 2013 following the retirement of David Bartolo from Edinburgh practice. I have particular expertise in minimally invasive colorectal surgery with the largest experience of it in the region, outstanding quality performance indicators, and having taught on international courses and mentored consultant colleagues.
I work in Spire Shawfair Park's endoscopy suite which holds JAG accreditation.
Extended fellowships were undertaken in laparoscopic colorectal surgery in the renowned unit in Brisbane, and in inflammatory bowel disease and pouch surgery in Edinburgh. I studied and trained in Edinburgh, including a doctoral thesis in colorectal cancer molecular genetics.
I undertake the full range of colorectal practice including modern techniques such as HALO, stapled haemorrhoidectomy, laparoscopic ventral mesh rectopexy and cleft closure for pilonidal sinus. I also have active colonoscopy and laparoscopic parastomal/incisional hernia practices. General surgery practice is deliberately limited to umbilical/groin hernias and minor skin lumps.
Some of the principal treatments carried out by Mr Andrew (AJ) Clark at Spire include:
General surgery
Endoscopy
Consultant Colorectal Surgeon, NHS Lothian.
Honorary Senior Lecturer, University of Edinburgh.
Schooled in Morayshire, I have maintained a love of the Scottish countryside, which I try to impart to my three sons. I enjoy fly fishing, playing very average golf, and am a novice but keen beekeeper.
