MB.ChB, PhD, FRCS (Tr & Orth)
I am a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon at the Northern General and The Royal Hallamshire Hospitals.
I qualified from Sheffield Medical School in 1997 and completed my higher surgical training in Sheffield and the surrounding area. Before my Consultant position, I trained as a Fellow with Mr. Andrew Manktelow and Mr. Peter James in revision hip and knee replacement surgery at Nottingham University NHS Trust.
Currently, I serve as the Deputy Clinical Director (Elective Orthopaedics) at Sheffield Teaching Hospitals and as the Lower Limb Arthroplasty Clinical Lead. I am also the Regional Chair of the Major Revision Knee Network, covering the North East and Yorkshire.
In 2012, I earned a PhD in immunobiology and genetic risk factors for aseptic loosening after total hip replacement. My PhD work has received both national and international awards, including the William Harris Hip Award in the USA.
I have published in numerous journals, including The Lancet.
Presently, I am a Consultant in the Lower Limb Arthroplasty Unit at Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust, a centre for both simple and complex primary and revision hip and knee replacement surgery. Sheffield remains a quaternary referral centre for highly complex revision cases, with over 40% of its workload scoring Revision Complexity Scores of 3, and 44% of its workload related to infection surgery.
