MB BCh BAO, MCh, FRCSEd(Paeds), DipIMC(RCSEd)
I am a consultant Paediatric Urologist. I was appointed to Addenbrooke's Hospital Cambridge as a Paediatric Surgeon and Urologist in 2013, before being asked to return to Birmingham Children's Hospital in 2015 to take over a highly specialised Reconstructive Paediatric Urology Practice and to develop the paediatric stone service for the West Midlands. Nationally there are fewer than 40 consultant paediatric urologists making us one of the smallest specialties.
I have a General Paediatric Urology practice where I see patients with problems such as hernias, hydroceles, undescended testes, foreskin problems, hypospadias, haematuria (blood in urine), urinary reflux, urinary tract infections, hydronephrosis and kidney problems. I have special expertise in managing complex bladder problems, urological reconstruction and stone disease in children.
I am the Regional Training Programme Director for Paediatric Surgery for Birmingham, Bristol and Cardiff Consortium. This means I am responsible for overseeing the training that Paediatric Surgical Trainees receive in these centres.
In addition to my clinical work I am the current Honorary Secretary for the British Association of Paediatric Urologists (BAPU).
I am actively involved in teaching and am a regular member of faculty on a number of recognised national courses (including the Annual Paediatric Urology Course held annually in Cambridge, Cambridge Emergency Urology Course, Advanced Paediatric Life Support Course and Generic Instructors Course). As well as this I organise local educational events for Paediatric Surgical Trainees and Adult Urology Trainees.
Alongside my teaching interest I am involved in clinical research. I am an author on 15 peer reviewed research papers, 5 invited articles, 3 book chapters and I have presented at regional, national and international meetings. I also peer review articles for journals before they are accepted for publication.
