I have been working as a consultant general and benign upper gastrointestinal (GI) surgeon in Warrington and Halton Teaching Hospitals for about four years. I enjoy performing laparoscopic general and benign upper GI surgery including gallbladder, groin hernia, anti-reflux surgery, paraesophaegal hernia, management of motility disorders like achalasia surgery, and abdominal wall hernia surgery. I am JAG-accredited for upper GI diagnostic endoscopy.
I have performed to date around 2,000 gastroscopies, 1,000 gall bladder surgeries, 500 groin hernia surgeries, and around 100 anti-reflux and paraesophageal hernia surgeries.
Prior to my consultant role, I was trained as a general surgeon in South Yorkshire, Liverpool, and Oxford. I have done a fellowship in bariatric (weight loss) surgery at Churchill Hospital Oxford where I have also gained experience in treating complex upper GI cases. I was trained at the Institute of Medical Sciences Banaras Hindu University, a prestigious institute in India for my basic medical and surgical training before coming to the United Kingdom.
Teaching and training are an essential part of professional development and I enjoy teaching general surgical trainees. I am a Royal College of Surgeons tutor for basic and advanced surgical skill courses. I am also a trainer for upper GI diagnostic gastroscopies.
I have presented papers in national and international meetings. I have several publications in reputed indexed journals including British Journal of Surgery and Annals of Royal College of Surgeons.
I am also governance lead in my department at Warrington Hospital for the past three years and I enjoy working in this role to improve patient experience and surgical outcomes.
