MBBS, FRCS(urol)
I am a fellowship-trained robotic surgeon with expertise in urological cancers involving the prostate, kidney, bladder and testes. I hold a further subspecialist interest in treating men with benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) and am one of a few urologists in the north of England to perform laser prostate surgery (HoLEP). I perform HoLEP using the ‘En-bloc technique with early apical release’ which has been shown to have superior continence outcomes.
In addition to my sub-specialist practice, I have broad expertise of managing general urological conditions including urinary tract infections (UTI), kidney stones, testicular lumps and testicular pain, blood in the urine (haematuria) or semen (haematospermia), incontinence and erectile dysfunction.
I currently work as a consultant urologist at Stepping Hill Hospital and hold clinics at Macclesfield, Tameside and Leighton Hospitals. I also serve as an honorary consultant at Hull University Teaching Hospital.
I completed my surgical and urological training in Yorkshire during which time I was awarded 1st prize by the Royal College of Surgeons for demonstrating exemplary surgical skills amongst my cohort of trainees in the UK. Upon completing my urological training, I was accepted into the highly coveted robotic fellowship at the internationally renowned Guy’s and St Thomas’ hospital in London, the first Vattikuti Foundation accredited Robotic Surgery Institute in the UK. During my fellowship I became one of the first surgeons in Europe to carry out a robotic prostatectomy using both the traditional Da Vinci robot and Medtronic’s HUGO platform. I am a keen innovator in the field and am able to perform a robotic prostatectomy using an anterior hood technique for eligible patients which has shown superior outcomes in terms of early continence recovery.
I have a keen research interest in surgical innovation and has collaborated with engineering departments at the university of Leeds as well as King’s College London to develop new devices for minimally invasive surgery. I completed a mini-MBA at King’s College London in the field of surgical innovation and leadership to further cement my expertise in this area.
