BM BCh (Oxford), MA (Cambridge), FRCS ORL-HNS (England), MD (London)
I specialise in all forms of ear surgery, including complex mastoid and middle ear surgery, stapedectomy and auditory and cochlear implants, and frequently deals with tertiary referrals and complex revision cases. I also have dedicated Paediatric ENT clinics and theatre sessions at the RNTNEH. I am experienced in sinus and nasal surgery. In ENT, the majority of patients do not require surgery, and I take a particular interest in exploring all treatment options for my patients, including non-surgical options.
I was awarded a scholarship to read Medicine at Pembroke College, Cambridge University. After completing the Medical Sciences Tripos I transferred to New College, Oxford to complete the clinical course and qualified as a doctor in 1990. I passed the General Surgery fellowship exams before specializing in ENT, completed higher surgical training in Cambridge and East Anglia, and passed the FRCS ORL-HNS examination of the Royal College of Surgeons of England in 2000.
I was appointed as Consultant ENT Surgeon with a special interest in cochlear implants at the prestigious Royal National Throat, Nose and Ear Hospital in 2002.
In addition to my medical and surgical qualifications I have an MA in Experimental Psychology from Cambridge, and was awarded an MD from the University of London for my research into rhinitis and matrix metalloproteinases. I have written journal articles and book chapters, teach on local and national courses, and I'm an Assistant Editor for the Journal of Otolaryngology.
