"I love working at Spire Harpenden. It is very inspiring to work in such a friendly, well-organised and above all patient-focussed environment."
Specialises in
I have been a qualified doctor for over 24 years and a qualified consultant urologist for over 11 years. I have had comprehensive training and experience in urology and I cover the majority of adult urology.
IÂ completed training in London, Bristol and the Cambridge training rotation. I have particular expertise in urological diagnostics and set up one of the first urology "one stop" clinics in the country, a successful project that was featured in the annual hospital awards and significantly reduced waiting times. In addition to general urology, I also specialise in minimally invasive treatments to improve outcomes and I have successfully introduced several new treatments and specialities into my department.
During 24 years of practice I have performed over 14,000 urological procedures including, 1,200 prostate biopsies (the last 780 of which have been trans-perineal), 690 bladder cancer resections, 325 circumcisions, 560 surgeries to relieve benign prostatic obstruction and 400 ureteroscopies.
I work in one of the highest volume centres for laser prostate surgery in the UK. I have personally performed well over 200 holmium laser enucleations of the prostate (HoLEP) and I train senior trainees from all around the country who come to learn this technique in our unit.Â
I am the lead clinician for urological cancer in our department and I led the urological cancer response to Covid. I have also contributed to several regional cancer guidelines. I am a GMC approved trainer and I teach on several national urology courses. I continue to maintain an active interest in clinical research and I have been local investigator for several national trials in recent years.
I have published extensively in the urological literature and I have given numerous presentations around the world on urological topics. I am the recipient of 3 clinical excellence awards and numerous academic prizes and grants for my work, including a British Urological Foundation Fellowship.

I am married and live locally. I enjoy running and have competed in several international marathons including New York, London, Tokyo and all the world marathon majors across the globe, with competitive times and national rankings.
The arrival of my young daughter means that I now tend spend more time watching, rather than playing sport and time with my growing family is now the greatest pleasure in my life.
