Specialises in

  • Breast surgery
  • Breast cancer
  • Breast lumps
  • Breast pain
  • Nipple problems

I qualified from Edinburgh University with a first-class honours degree in pathology and graduated from medical school with honours, winning the Annandale Medal in Surgery, the Mouat Scholarship in Medicine and the William Leslie Gold Medal and Ettles Scholarship as the top graduate in my year.

I gained expertise across the full range of breast surgery including the use of aesthetic plastic surgical techniques to provide complex reconstruction in the treatment of breast cancer. I am one of only a few breast surgeons to have also gained interspecialty membership of the British Association of Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgeons (BAPRAS).

I have special interests in complex and revisional breast cancer reconstruction, the treatment of breast pain and nipple discharge. I am an expert in the diagnosis, assessment and management of breast cancer and benign breast problems. I care a great deal about my patients and am always happy to see people with new breast symptoms, problems after previous treatment or for a second opinion.

I trained across south-east Scotland including several years at the Edinburgh Breast unit under Prof Mike Dixon and was appointed to a prestigious Joint Colleges of Higher Surgical Training national fellowship in oncoplastic breast surgery at the Royal Hallamshire Hospital.

I returned to Scotland to take up a joint position as consultant oncoplastic breast surgeon in NHS Lanarkshire, NHS Fife and NHS Forth Valley. I am the Clinical Lead for breast surgery in NHS Fife and have been appointed as Clinical Director for Ambulatory Surgery (including breast and plastic surgery) at NHS Forth Valley.

I have published and presented internationally in the field of breast cancer surgery. I have been awarded a PhD for my research into the origins of cancer stem cells, undertaken at the world-renowned Roslin Institute.

I attended Hutcheson’s Grammar School in Glasgow which is where I met my wife who is also a consultant surgeon. We live in Edinburgh and have two boys who attend George Heriots. I spend most of my free time watching them play various sports. I enjoy travel and good food.
