MD, PhD, FRCS (Plast), Fellow of EBOPRAS
I am an internationally acclaimed expert in natural tissue breast reconstruction (DIEP flap, PAP flap, thigh flaps), lymphoedema microsurgery and melanoma and non-melanoma skin cancer reconstruction. I am also specialised in migraine headache treatment. I am a full-time Consultant Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeon at the prestigious Christie NHS Foundation Trust in Manchester; one of the biggest cancer centres in Europe - where I am responsible for development of complex microsurgical reconstruction. I am the only plastic surgeon in the UK trained in lymphoedema microsurgery by Professor Cheng, a pioneer in this field from Taiwan.
Apart from lymphoedema, breast reconstruction and skin cancer surgery, I also offer expertise in facial palsy and facial reconstruction, migraine headache treatment (permanent results), liposuction and lipofilling, abdominoplasty-tummy tuck, upper and lower limb, chest wall and abdominal wall reconstruction following sarcoma.
I have completed prestigious fellowships in breast reconstruction and perforator flaps with pioneers in this field, Professor Jaume Masia in Barcelona as well as inventor of DIEP flap Dr Robert Allen in New York. I possess a PhD and Masters Degree in Biomedical Sciences and have worked as Assistant Professor at University of Maribor, Slovenia. I was trained by some of the leading perforator flap surgeons around the world including Professor Ming-Huei Cheng (Taiwan) and Professor Jaume Masia (Barcelona). My sub-specialty interest is complex microvascular reconstruction for different body areas, particularly breast reconstruction and lymphoedema microsurgery as well as limb and face reconstruction.
I have published some of the key papers on one of today’s most important advances in the field of microsurgical breast reconstruction – the use of CT angiogram and MRI for planning of perforator flaps to significantly improve surgical outcomes for all women undergoing breast reconstruction. I published 43 scientific papers in best international plastic surgery journals, including some of the key papers on pre-operative planning of perforator flaps, which have been cited more than 160x in literature.
I have also completed a famous microsurgical fellowship at Imperial College NHS - Charing Cross Hospital in London. I am one of the few plastic surgeons in the UK experienced in penile reconstructions for transgender patients.
I am one of the only 20 UK-practicing plastic surgery consultants who is a full member of prestigious EURAPS (European Association of Plastic Surgeons). In 2011, I was awarded the prestigious EURAPS Scholarship.
I am also a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of England and European Board of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. I was awarded the prestigious EURAPS Scholarship for the best European Plastic Surgeon as well as a HCA Scholarship.
