I am a consultant surgeon offering gastrointestinal surgery and general surgery. I am experienced in all areas of general surgery. However, my main interests lay in laparoscopic (keyhole) surgery and surgery of the gut.
I was amongst the first surgeons to take up laparoscopic surgery and was doing as much as possible, laparoscopically, in the pioneering days of laparoscopy in the UK around 1991. I now concentrate my time on the surgery of the gut, particularly the foregut (upper gastrointestinal surgery). I have a particular interest in surgery for gastrointestinal cancer.
In my private practice at Spire Hartswood Hospital, I aim to offer efficient and rapid diagnosis of gastrointestinal conditions, using appropriate investigations such as endoscopy and perform weight loss surgery procedures including gastric band, sleeve and bypass surgery.
In my NHS practice at Queen's Hospital in Romford, Essex, I have developed local services for laparoscopic (keyhole) surgery, and advanced complex laparoscopic surgery, as well as diagnostic services such as rectal bleeding clinics. Much of my work involves the most difficult forms of laparoscopic surgery eg oesophagogastrectomy, hiatus hernia and reflux surgery, splenectomy, colon resection and biliary surgery.
I was appointed a consultant in 1996 at Barking, Havering and Redbridge University Hospitals NHS Trust. I hold the posts of clinical director for surgery and clinical director for gastroenterology at The Trust.
I am known for my involvement in the training of junior surgeons and was the 2009 winner of the prestigious Silver Scalpel award from the Association of Surgeons in Training (ASIT). I have published papers on subjects such as laparoscopic common bile duct exploration for gallstones and Barrett' oesophagus.
