Mr Dominic Marley

Consultant Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgeon

MB BCh BAO, MSc, FRCS (Tr&Orth)

I am Consultant Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgeon who specialises in disorders of the hip and knee. My clinical practice includes the surgical and non-surgical treatment of arthritis affecting the hip and knee.

I provide an evidence based, patient centred approach allowing patients to get the most out of their treatment.

I perform hip replacement surgery, knee replacement surgery and partial knee replacement surgery using implants with proven excellent survivorship in the national joint registry.

Having visited specialist Orthopaedic Centres around the country I have incorporated modern enhanced recovery techniques into my practice. This has helped patients feel less pain, mobilise quicker and spend less time in hospital. As a result of this, I have developed the day case joint replacement pathway at Bolton NHS foundation Trust which allows patients to safely go home on the day of surgery.

I qualified from Queens University Belfast in 2008 and subsequently completed my basic surgical training in Northern Ireland. In 2018, I was awarded the Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons (FRCS T&O) as well as the North West Trainee of the Year award. I obtained my Certificate of Completion of training (CCT) in 2019.

On completion of my training, I was successfully appointed to the highly competitive Arthroplasty Fellowship at the world-renowned Centre for Hip Surgery at Wrightington Hospital. During my two-year fellowship, I received intensive training in the management of complex hip and knee conditions including complex primary replacements and revision surgery for failed or infected joint replacements.

I am heavily involved in medical education in the North West. I am the medical education lead within the Orthopaedic Department at the Royal Bolton Hospital and I am the Royal College of Surgeons of England Tutor for Bolton NHS Foundation trust.

I am responsible for training orthopaedic trainees as well as acting as a clinical and educational supervisor for junior doctors. I am teach on specialist hip and knee courses as well as educational courses for trainees preparing for their intercollegiate exams.
