MD MS Oncoplastic Breast PGCME FEBS FRCS
I am an Oncoplastic and Reconstructive Breast Surgeon at Hull University Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust. I offer the full range of contemporary breast cancer surgical treatment, including complex therapeutic mammoplasty, symmetrisation surgery, breast reduction and immediate sub-pectoral and pre-pectoral implant-based breast reconstruction with use of acellular dermal matrices.
I have had comprehensive oncoplastic training and have a special interest for oncoplastic breast conservation surgery, local flaps (mini-latissimus dorsi, thoracodorsal artery perforator and lateral intercostal artery perforator flaps), risk reducing surgery, breast reconstruction with implant and lipomodelling.
Beyond breast cancer treatment I have a dedicated interest in breast aesthetics: breast reduction, breast lifting, breast augmentation, gynaecomastia (male chest wall) surgery and gender reassignment surgery: female to male top surgery.
I have completed more than 2,000 total breast surgical procedures including: skin-sparing mastectomy, simple mastectomy, wide local excision, SLN biopsy, breast abscess, duct clearance, microdochectomy, fat grafting, oncoplastic techniques (level I and level II): therapeutic mammoplasty, lateral chest wall perforator flaps, autologous and prosthesis-based reconstruction, breast reduction, breast lifting, breast augmentation, gynaecomastia (male chest wall) surgery and gender reassignment surgery: female to male top surgery.
I obtained my basic medical qualification from University of Medicine and Pharmacy Cluj-Napoca and was awarded a CCST in 2015. I have subsequently undertaken three separate Oncoplastic Fellowships at leading institutions including Guy’s and St Thomas’ Hospital, London, The Royal County Hospital, Hampshire, Addenbrooke’s Hospital, Cambridge and the Royal Marsden Hospital, London. The prestigious Querci della Rovere Fellowship rotated through Addenbrooke’s Hospital and the Royal Marsden with observerships at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Centre, New York and the National Cancer Institute, Milan. These Fellowships have provided me with comprehensive training in all aspects of Oncoplastic and reconstructive breast surgery. I also hold the degree of Master of Surgery from the University of East Anglia and am a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeon and European Board of Breast Surgery.
I have a keen interest in research especially in areas relating to development of new technologies such as fluorescence navigation and magnetic particles for sentinel lymph node biopsy and new devices for breast reconstruction (acellular dermal matrices and titanium mesh).
In addition to my clinical work and research activities, I am committed to teaching medical students and junior doctors and am a designated Clinical Tutor for 3rd year medical students at Hull York Medical School.
I recently undertook a self funded visit to Nairobi, Kenya with a group of other surgeons from the UK as part of the International Forum of the Association of Breast Surgery. The later aims to support lower and middle income countries (LMIC) in development of breast surgery and implementation of guidelines for management of breast diseases.
I am the author of several publications including a book chapter in the field of oncoplastic and reconstructive breast surgery in several journals including: Future Oncology, The Lancet Oncology, Annals of Surgery and open access journals.
