I am a Consultant Ophthalmologist specialising in all aspects of medical and surgical glaucoma as well as complex cataract surgery. I am also qualified to treat all types of general ophthalmic conditions.

I hold a substantive consultant post at Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust and I am an honorary senior lecturer at the University of Leeds. I am the Glaucoma Clinical Lead for Ophthalmic Practitioner Training at Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust.

I graduated with Honours from the University of Manchester Medical School and received the JHG Holt Prize for exceptional academic performance. I went on to complete my subspecialty training in Glaucoma at Europe’s largest teaching hospital, St James University Hospital in Leeds. During my training I visited centres of excellence including the Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary, Boston, USA and the Prism Eye Institute, Toronto, Canada.

After my training I went on to further my knowledge of minimally invasive glaucoma and tube surgery including the MINInject, eyeWatch and non- penetrating glaucoma surgery at the Swiss Visio Clinic, Lausanne, Switzerland Professor Kiwah Mansouri (voted top 40 Glaucoma specialists in the world as part of the Ophthalmology Power List) and Professor André Mermoud (the original inventor of eyeWatch Glaucoma system).

I am a keen teacher and have experience of teaching at a local, regional and national level. I hold three formal teaching qualifications including the Developing the Clinical Teacher course from the University of Oxford. I am also a founding member of the Yorkshire Ophthalmological Society and sit on the review Board for the Journal of Optometry and Ophthalmology.

I have received nine academic prizes for my work including the Royal Society of Medicine Ophthalmology Prize and the Ethicon Foundation Grant. I have a keen interest in research and have published 13 papers in peer-reviewed journals.

In my spare time I am a keen runner and outdoors man. I have competed in sport at an international level achieving my GB colours and competing for Great Britain in the European Duathlon Championships in 2011. I also enjoy listening to music, playing jazz and blues piano and spending time with my young family.
